Weaner Weighing

During the months of February and March, researchers from UC Santa Cruz study the recently weaned elephant seals at Año Nuevo.  They are measured, flipper-tagged, and weighed by a crew of several people.  These data are part of a long-term demographic study that dates back more than 40 years.  We rely on volunteers to help with this work.  We receive many requests from potential volunteers, so we ask that volunteers be willing to help at least three days during the field season.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please fill out an application by clicking here and indicate specifically that you are interested in helping with weaner-weighing.  You will also have to complete some paperwork/training: please complete the "fieldwork" section of this website
